Thoughts before Australian Blogging Conference
I’m on my way to the Australian Blogging Conference at QUT Kelvin Grove today. The conference is a fairly informal chat with some successful bloggers from around Brisbane mostly. I’m looking forward to meeting a few of the people behind some of the blogs on my RSS list. I’m also a little bit nervous because I’m not sure what I’ll be able to contribute to the discussion apart from lamenting that I don’t get many comments on my blog and often wonder why I’m still doing it.
I started this blog with the ideal of being a voice for left wing christianity on the web. At the time, the christian presence on the net was mostly American evangelicals. I wanted to show that christianity has an expression that is very aligned with social justice and point out the positive ways that christians have influenced society. Over time the blog has become more personal. It turns out that Bogosity is not limited to American evangelicals and the fundamentalist christian movement but can be found everywhere in and out of religion. I think the blog has become more of a journal of my inner journey through cycles of finding and losing faith in God, religion and humanity.
I suppose the reason I’m still blogging despite my failure to rise to superstardom is that I get good feedback from my friends and ultimately I just enjoy it for it’s own sake. I’m sad that my uniquely brilliant insights and solutions to the worlds problems haven’t been taken up by the masses but I’m happy that I’ve occasionally written things that have generated a few ‘me too’ comments and put a few smiles on faces.
I’m hoping that this blogging conference will be a chance to build up some networks and make friends for mutual inspiration and to egg each other on in our various blogging enterprises.

Hi Matthew – was good to meet you in person. I’ve put a photograph with you in it on my review of the day – under the title “Better Bloggers”.
