Sam vs Greg
As you know I pay a lot of close attention to the Wiggles and recently I’ve been watching a bit of the Nu-School Sam Wiggle stuff. There are some noticeable differences between the latest offering (Getting Strong) and some of the more classic Wiggles such as Wiggle Time and Fruit Salad (which comes as a double feature on DVD)
The first thing I notice is that nu-wiggles is like old skool wiggles on speed. The colours are brighter, the dancing is wigglier and well it’s the vibe – just more intense. I think Greg had a very laid back manner that countered the general wackiness of the other Wiggles. Sam is kind of like a cheeky elf where as Greg was more grown up kind of. I can’t name it but they don’t seem as comfortable as they were in the earlier DVDs. They just seem jumpier.
I especially notice Anthony’s presence has changed. He and Greg were the dynamic duo that powered the Wiggles and now that dynamism (dare I say synergy) is gone. Perhaps this lack of interaction is what I’m not getting from getting Strong – I mean they interact but there’s none of the natural play about that used to go on. Like when Anthony used to interrupt Greg all the time when he was speaking and then apologise only to do it again. All yours Greg.
However, Getting Strong has passed the Sol test with flying colours to the point where he whinges if I put the older stuff on. So I’m sure they’ll have no trouble selling out their shows in December (I’ll be hitting the Ticketek site for three admissions in early July myself).
I hope to be the first person to stage-dive at a Wiggles concert – but only if they play the footballers song.
P.S. Getting Strong is worth your money just to see Captain Feathersword dressed in a tutu and ballet pirate boots.
P.P.S Some wiggly marketing tips for when you start your own children’s
brand. (one day I should do a more serious post on how children’s branding makes me cynical about the future of humanity – but sometimes it’s easier to laugh and hope that everything will be ok despite our best efforts to crap on every sacred thing we possibly can)

Thanks for the low-down – upcoming concert, new band vs old band. Sheesh I don’t even know the footballers song. I am way behind. I’ll look out for your stage dive, I’ll be the one mouthing incoherant words slightly out of time with the music, pretending I know the songs.
