Holy Hip Hop
Still listening to Safran. They had the Brotherhood on who are a muslim hip hop group – I can’t find much about them online. They were pretty interesting to listen to.
I’ve noticed lately at least one other religious hip hop / reggai act getting airplay: Matisyahu (see this link also) . There are a million and one christian groups out there and I suppose it’s a sign of the times to see believers of other religions getting into the music market – I imagine this trend will continue – partly because of the preachy nature of hip hop.
While checking out a few websites I came across this part of a review which I quite liked:
Gig Review: Matisyahu @ the Prince of Wales
I’ve long believed that the deeply religious should get outside their insular cloisters and spread their messages to the fun-loving, substance-impaired sinners of the world. I wouldn’t be averse to listening to a Tibetan Monk with an accordion or a Hindu Mystic with a bagpipe – the weirder the better. But to be more than a gimmick, the messenger has to be genuinely entertaining.
