Safran has lost his teeth
I watched the first episode of Speaking in Tongues and it was not as good as I had hoped. It was pretty similar to John and Father Bob’s radio show which is great but on TV it was not very visually interesting. I was hoping for a bit more field work and the usual shenanigans but the entire show took place in the same set with John and Bob seated and reading the newspaper.

The content wasn’t very biting either, some stuff recycled from the radio show and a few tame insults traded between Bob and John but not very convincing. The highlight was when they interviewed an ex-terrorist – that was actually pretty good.
I’m hoping they’ll get a bit more interesting once they work out how to translate the radio humour into the TV show and up the ante a bit.

[...] Last week I was a bit down on John and Bob’s new TV show so I’m happy to report that this weeks episode had moved from a little dissapointing to ok. [...]

I completely agree. Perhaps we’ve come to expect too much coolness from Safran. His wit was so biting on “vs god” but this show seemed to lack that vitality—like they had to do a last minute rush job to come up with stuff.
Also the main snippet of info that I remembered from the show was that, according to an guest author on the show, Muhammad was apparently a rapist and a paedophile, consumating his marriage to a girl when she was nine. Not sure if this can be substantiated but it struck me as odd that it was the only really controversial thing in the whole show! Not that he didn’t take the piss out of all the other religions too, but it almost seemed anti-Muslim.
